I have been one busy bee lately, let me tell you. I really wish I wasn’t putting up my May round up at the end of June but it is what it is. I even contemplated meshing May and June together, but May definitely deserves it’s own post.

I decided to try something a little new in terms of how I display my photos just to spice things up a bit since this is so delayed. So let’s get into it, shall we?

BIRTHDAYFirst things first, my birthday! Jude took me to Atlantic City to grab dinner but ended up surprising me with a couple of our closest friends. I literally had NO idea & even though it ended up being quite an interesting night, I still love them to death & I really appreciate them coming to celebrate with me. My birthday also happened to fall on Mother’s Day this year! It felt nice to be able to celebrate my mom’s special day along with my own. I honestly didn’t do as much as I would’ve wanted on my birthday this year, but looking back at it now, it really wasn’t that bad. Besides, according to Blink 182, “nobody likes you when you’re 23.”

EDCOne week after my birthday was EDCNY. Who could ask for a better birthday present? Although a lot of people said that this year’s festival wasn’t on par with last years, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Good music, good friends & good vibes — it’s all you really need. And I couldn’t have chosen a better group of people to rage with. Our core group of 10 is my heart & I love them every single one of them. I’m so happy to have them to experience these things to the fullest & with the most love. And lastly despite the last minute outfits, flower crowns & kandi, I think my friends & I looked super cute!

On the Sunday before Memorial Day, three of my friends celebrated their graduation. And you best believe I made it to each & every party! I don’t think I’ve driven that much in one day in my entire life. AND I PARKED IN JERSEY CITY FOR THE FIRST TIME. BY MYSELF. Granted it took me a million years, but it happened & I’m not sure if it’ll be able to happen again. I made an appearance at Allyssa’s party first. Her parents are the most amazing cooks so I always look forward to the good eats. But more than that, I love being able to reconnect with people I haven’t seen in a long time at her parties. I really wish I could’ve stayed longer, but I had a great time. The next stop was my best friend Anna’s party. The second I parked my car, I could hear the Spanish music blasting inside her house & I immediately knew it was gunna be a good time (or a shit show) once I walked in the door. I love Anna’s family so much. Despite the fact that I haven’t been around as much as I was in high school, her family still continues to treat me like one of their own. It’s never a dull moment in the Casiano household. Never. Lastly, I headed over to Jersey City to celebrate Ate Lovely’s graduation. It was awkward walking by myself into a dark backyard full of people I didn’t know, but once I found my friends & got a couple drinks in me, it was such a good time. A bonfire, s’mores & an unexpected stripper? What more would you want at a graduation party? Haha, it was a great way to end the night. I wish all my friends the best of luck with their adventures after college.

Next up, my internships! I’ve been at Makerbot for almost 3 months & I can honestly tell you that I’m starting to really love it. I’m learning SO much — about the company & about my work. I’m re-learning things that I forgot from college like various more tips & tricks to making my photos look decent. It’s super exciting to see my work on their blog and to know that major partnerships will be using my images in brochures & stuff. And I love that I’m interning here in the midst of some amazing things happening at the company. I can’t wait to see what’s in store, both for myself and for the future of Makerbot.

SMALL GIRLSMy second internship is at Small Girls PR. The second I heard about this company at the Find and Follow Your Passion event, I knew that I wanted to intern there. And I mean, look how cute the office is! I’m really glad my schedule ended up working out between Makerbot and Small Girls, because if I had to let one go, I’d be a wreck. This internship is a little out of my comfort zone since I came from a completely different background, but the girls (and boy!) I work with make things a lot smoother and easier for me to understand and familiarize with. I’ve only been there a couple weeks, but it’s such an amazing ride so far. I’m learning how to do something that I’ve been interested in for a while at a company that represents everything that I love. One of my main tasks lately has been taking a lot of photos for them, so I’m glad I can contribute my skills in that area. Just like my other internship, I’m super excited to see what’s in store for me at Small Girls.

And now some little moments that don’t really need a full paragraph, but that I would like to include anyway.

11. I finally got to go to one of Martin’s house party/ragers. It was awk being one of the oldest there, but I’m glad I got to take a shot with the drunky birthday boy!   2. Celebrated Cinco de Mayo at Pancho’s Burritos with the boyf. I love Mexican food & super bulldogs SO MUCH.   3. The struggle of having big, curly hair. But whatevs, because I’m a blondecai again!   4. Madison Square Eats is the best. I wish it was up all year rounnndd.

21. I actually forgot I did this until just now. WELP, looks like I’m going to Coachella next year!   2. Reunited with these guys : )   3. My laptop got all kinds of fucked up & I became a regular at the Apple Genius Bar since I was there basically every day of my life.   4. Got to see an advanced screening of The Internship thanks to NY Creative Interns!

As you can see, the month of May was jam packed and I apologize for how delayed this post was. Hopefully I’ll be on top of my game for June, especially since it’s coming to an end in a week. This month has been just as crazy, so we’ll see what happens!

xoxo, S.

April Roundup!

I feel like I have been waiting forever to put my April summary up on here. In my last monthly round up, I mentioned that I was feeling more accomplished and motivated and I hoped that my attitude would follow through in the months to come. This month definitely allowed me to keep that mentality in place. So many good things happened, particularly in terms of my job search (!!!). It just goes to show that patience really is a virtue and sometimes all you need is to sit tight, stay positive and pray for the best.

Started off the month reuniting with my favorite coworker at our old stomping grounds at Just Sweet. // Went into a Uniqlo pop-up shop and ended up getting our picture taken. // Neon nails and Emergen-C in my then favorite water bottle. It smells weird now.. : ( // Thrifted some awesome stuff, including a 35mm camera with a 50mm lens for $20!

Got the opportunity to photograph the NY Creative Interns #FindPassion conference and received this “award” at the volunteer meeting! Lolol, first time multiple Stephanie’s in one room worked in my favor! // At the actual #FindPassion conference, I got my first business cards! Design courtesy of Maria. < 3 // Going away brunch in the city with complimentary mimosas and screwdrivers for Emily. // Said brunch with these biddies. : )

Helped Tita Gemma unpack all the goodies she brought back from her trip to the Philippines! // Had an interview at Warby Parker! // Came to help Em pack and see her off before she moved to Boston. : ( // Had an interview with Makerbot!

Photographed a bunch of bridesmaids in the West Village! // Awesome sidewalk art in Washington Square Park. // Mmmm, Jude and Celina picked me up from the city & we picked up a pie of the most delicious artichoke pizza. // Took a trip to Hoboken to celebrate this guy’s 24th!

Breakfast at the last Shakookequela shindig I will attend.. // ..Because this guy is moving back to India! Miss you already Shashi. : ( // Accepted the photo internship position at Makerbot Industries. // And got this awesome gridded journal that I am OBSESSED with.

Dinner date with my Pops! // My view from my desk at work. // Lara and I got our coloring pages hung up at Jude’s dentist, haha. // YUM.

Strip clubz & dolla billlzzz for this girl’s birthday! // Slate NYC for part 2 of Faye’s birthday! // Lazy recovery day. // We’re actually only 15.

Boom Boom Room @ Porta! // Mmmmm, best soft tofu evaaaa. // Well this was a first.

So there it is. April was a lot of fun and super encouraging. I feel super blessed with everything that’s happened last month, both pictured and not. And I know I probably say this every month, but with my birthday, EDC, and my 4 year anniversary (what!?) coming up in May, I honestly can not wait to see what this month and beyond has in store!

Bridesmaid photoshoot!

A few Saturday’s ago, I was asked to come into the city to shoot a mini Bachelorette party. It was a cute day filled with good weather, new friends and so many giggles.

Walking around the West Village in pink tiaras definitely caught the attention of a lot of people. But these girls took advantage of the stares and tossed the bride-to-be into photos with everyone we ran into.

Not only were these girls a lot of fun, but they were super inspiring as well. At the end of our time together and before everyone parted ways, they ended the day with a prayer. Their dedication to their faith in the middle of Washington Square Park was moving and reminded me of the beauty of sisterhood.

Wishing the beautiful bride-to-be the best of luck in her marriage and her future!

“Dive in. That’s how you find your passion.”

This past Saturday was the Find and Follow Your Passion conference hosted by NY Creative Interns. Creative professionals from companies like AOL to Nickelodeon to Foursquare were willing to spend their Saturday at this event to speak and inspire young creatives like myself. I attended the first Find Passion conference they held last year and it was an amazing experience. It was such an honor to be able to attend again, network with people and be one of the photographers to document the event.

The opening keynote speech was given by Gary Vaynerchuk and I can’t think of anyone else more perfect to start the day off. Gary is a talented entrepreneur, self-trained social media expert, and a best selling author. His talk was far from the typical opening speech but it was so real. He spoke realistically and didn’t sugar coat anything, but still provided solid advice on how to succeed in doing what you love. One of my favorite things I took away from his speech was to “play the game any way you want, but the most important thing is to know yourself.

The sessions I attended were Who Recruiters Hire, Learn How to Make It On Your Own, Creative Entrepreneurs, and Career Growth Tips for Creatives. There were so many valuable tips and tricks I gained from these sessions, it’s insane. I could go on and on about what I learned in each discussion, but this little blog post would turn into a novel. So instead, I’ll just include some of my favorite pieces of advice. If you want to see more little tidbits of what I and others took away from these sessions, just look up the #FindPassion hashtag on Twitter. I felt like I was serial tweeting and blowing up everyone’s Twitter feeds on Saturday, but why not inspire others right?

Don’t be afraid to be the change that you want to be.

Fuck fear. Just go for it.

Do something for free that’s worth it to put yourself out there.

If you want opportunities, ask for them and earn them.

Make yourself uncomfortable to the point that you learn something from it.

This years Find and Follow Your Passion conference was awesome. It was literally just what I needed at this time in my life. Being around creative professionals and people in the same boat as I am was so inspiring. This conference definitely gave me a push in the right direction and the motivation to find and follow my passion. (Too cheesy?)

If you want to see more photos from the event or more information about future events, be sure to check out the NY Creative Interns Facebook page!

#FindPassion Speaker Mixer!

Last Wednesday, I got the opportunity to shoot the Pre-Conference Speaker Mixer at the NY Creative Interns office. It was awesome to meet some of the speakers ahead of time!

I apologize for the desaturated colors in these photos. I’m not sure why they’re showing up like that.

Anyway, shooting this mixer and meeting a bunch of the speakers got me so much more stoked for tomorrow! I’m so excited to meet with other creatives and network with professionals in the field.

March Roundup.

Happy April! It’s insane that another month has passed already. I’ve been waiting for the warm weather for months now and I’m so glad that it’s finally here. I’ve been more motivated to spring clean my room & closet and I’m even trying to make it a point to squeeze in a quick workout every day. I don’t know if it’s the crazy amount of sunshine coming through my windows everyday or just because keeping busy keeps my mind off of life’s struggles, but I’m not complaining. I feel accomplished in little ways and it’s making me happy. : ) I hope this mood stays with me for all of April!

But in other news, here are the activities that went on during March!

march1Started off the month perfectly with Swedish House Mafia’s One Last Tour. / Tried going to my church’s Novena every night. / Fun night at The Park for Krys’ birthday! / Fun night for Tito Bernie’s 50th birthday. (Don’t mind the drink stain on my dress..)

march2At Tito Bernie’s 50th, we took full advantage of the unlimited Mimosas.. / Millers Ale House to celebrate Raizza’s bday at midnight! / I have a serious love for avocados. / This man playing the bagpipes made my St. Patricks Day Ikea trip a lot more festive.

march3I signed up for this Message from God thing on Facebook a long time ago but I’d always disregard it when I got the notification. For some reason I opened one up & the message definitely related to my life now. Bizarre, right? / Mmm, conveyer belt sushi is the best. / Finally reunited with my besties (minue Christine) for Raizza’s 23rd birthday. / FINALLY got rid of my busted dresser & replaced it with this simple one.

match4Missed Macaron Day NYC last year so I made sure not to miss it this year! / Reunited w. my high school biddies. / This was a hot mess of a night, but it was so much fun. / Palm Sunday!

march5 rounded15Spontaneous trip to Porta one night. / Reliving our childhood in the waiting room of Jude’s dentist. / Froyo date with the princess & her mommy! / Woo, best friend from Florida was in town!! < 3

march6Went to my first Easter vigil mass. / Mom & I busting out our creative side for the cupcakes she brought to a meeting.

I’m really enjoying these monthly reviews. At the beginning of every month, sometimes I feel like I barely did anything the month before. But once I start compiling all the pictures to send to my Dropbox, it reminds me of all the things I accomplished or enjoyed that month! It’s really refreshing and I look forward to it every month. Which is probably why these are the only kinds of posts I have so far. HOPEFULLY THAT’LL CHANGE SOON. I’m hoping that the beautiful Spring weather that Mother Nature is finally blessing us with provide me with the inspiration I need.

xoxo, Steph
